AQUN-ATHLOK "MARAAS" | PLAYED BY KAWIIE AS ? | [attr="class","cafbtbox"] [attr="class","cafh2"]strengths ✓ Maraas is born for combat, and handles himself with a certain graceful savagery. Like the principles of the Qun, nothing is to be wasted, and Maraas is quick at coming up with solutions on the fly, even as swords and axes come raining down, in order to figure out the quickest, most effective route to the opponent's demise. While it may look, as if he seeks to simply wreck havoc, it could not be further from the truth. Everything is calculated, everything is planned. ✓ Besides a knack for battle and wits, Maraas is a mass of will. Few things may shake him, or seem to upset or even touch him, though he does have his limits - they are just very well hidden. He believes strongly in the teachings of the Qun, and cannot even get his mind around any other truth. This gives him the fortitude and willpower to overcome any obstacle(in his mind), that should be presented to him. ✓ Maraas is quick to learn, not only when it comes to combat, and was at one point considered for priesthood, though his violent warrior mentality saw an end to this quickly. He was able to learn common tongue to a point of near fluent in a two year time-span, though he still makes mistakes, or switch out words for Qunlat. | | [attr="class","cafbtbox"] [attr="class","cafh2"]flaws ✘ Maraas is fanatical, a true extremist. He believes the Qun is the one and only truth, and all who deny it should be put to death. He believes that "reschooling" people into the Qun will only weaken the Qunari, and if he can get away with it, would rather spare the Qunari the trouble and be rid of them. He accepts taking kids and raising them as Qunari, but once they reach a certain age, if they do not convert at an instance, he sees them as a lost cause. ✘ Maraas has a hard time connecting with people on an emotional level. His dedication to the Qun makes it hard for him to think of anything else, than to spread the Truth through Steel. He does have a few Kadan, a "person one cares about", but it may be more of a respect for martial prowess than anything else. ✘ If there is one thing Maraas fears, it is the power of mages. While common for the Qunari, Maraas is perhaps even more extreme, believing that even "controlled" Saarebas should be put out of their misery, before they hurt the Qun, as they "inevitably will". If faced with a Mage, Maraas may lose focus and go for what he believes to be the biggest threat. This counters his otherwise well-calculated fighter instincts. |

"Maaras", as was the designation given to him by the Tamassran, due to his tendency to keep to himself, preferring solitude, was bred to be part of the military, yet a woman, the Tamassran tried their best to fit the young woman onto a different path, though her genetics willed it otherwise. Showing strength, fortitude and combat skills far beyond what was believed of her gender, she became Aqun-Athlok, "one who is born one gender, but lives like another". She, became a He, and was placed within the military. Here, he was given his tool, a large, two sided axe, which he named Katari, "One who brings death".
Over the course of many years following, Maraas barely ever left Qunari lands. Trained in secret for a war only known to the Qunari themselves, he, along with others, studied the physique, fighting styles and strategies of Humans, Elves and Dwarves, to prepare for the inevitable expansion of the Qun by sword and steel. When the Qunari finally launched their offensive on Seheron, he was at the front. He found great delight in the killing of Basra, and did not even stop to think of who he killed, or when he killed them. He only stopped on the command of his superiors. The two years following the takeover of Seheron, was spent studying even further into the inhabitants of Thedas. One might think this odd for a person like Maraas, who did not care to even try and understand the views of his foes. Rather, he wanted them to understand him, though it would also help him in the long run, as understanding the shouts and orders on the battlefield would increase his efficiency to intercept.
He still kept mostly to himself, though while fighting to take Seheron, he did manage to create somewhat of a bond to a few of his fellow soldiers. They became Kadan, thoiugh for him, it was more a sign of respect, than actual affection.
Now, the present, Maraas seeks more bloodshed. Eager to take on the basra of Thedas, and smear the ground with their blood, as their children are taken to strengthen the Qun, until it is all that remain. Ataash Qunari! Anaan Esaam Qun!
