[PTabbedContent][PTab=History] Ferelden By Birth [break][break] The story of Jaiden Hawke begins in Kirkwall, as the eldest child and daughter to Malcolm Hawke and Leandra Amell, an apostate and sympathetic noble respectively. While she would never know what came to pass as her birth until much later in her life, Jaiden's conception was, in part what fueled Malcolm's desire to run from Kirkwall. [break][break] Jaiden's early years were spent developing a knack for getting into mischief, but managing to charm her way out of it simply on youth and 'innocence' alone. While her parents thought the trait would subside upon the birth of twins Bethany and Carver, little Jaiden had other ideas. Twins meant distracted parents, and distracted parents meant she could get away with almost anything. [break] [break] Much to the behest of their father, Bethany manifested magical ability early. Malcolm would focus his efforts on teaching Bethany how to safely practice magic while keeping away from Circles, in turn teaching both Jaiden and Carver that their sister's abilities were to remain a secret outside of the family. While Carver would go on to resent the attention his sibling received, Jaiden went above and beyond to help their parents mask their sister's mage skills. The idea of losing a sibling was more severe to the young woman than harboring an 'apostate.'[break] [break] As the children grew, so to did Hawke's protective nature, especially when they settled in Lothering long enough to be known more than 'passerbys.' She developed a unique 'fighting' style to assist her father (and eventually her brother) whenever there was need to fend off unruly bandits, or in some cases, nosy bullies. For the most part, however, they remained a happy, peaceful family within the small village. Even when their father passed away, the family continued onward, with Jaiden aiding her mother in the best way an eldest daughter could. As the Fifth Blight threatened to spread throughout Ferelden, both Jaiden and Carver were conscripted into King Cailen's army to fight at the fortress in Ostagar. As the darkspawn forces pushed through with their assault, both siblings turned tail with the army's retreat, choosing to continue running and save the rest of their family, as had many of the other Ferelden soldiers with them. They would make it back to Lothering to retrieve Bethany and their mother, but not before the darkspawn reached them first and Carver was struck down. Their flight from their former home would take them to the outskirts of the Kocari Wilds, where they would run into a living, breathing dragon named Flemeth (who would immediately and then later be identified to Hawke as a Witch of the Wilds). Striking a deal with Flemeth to transport a pendant in return for safe passage to Gwaren, the Hawke family would set out for their long trek to Kirkwall.[break][break] The Hawke family's arrival to Kirkwall marked the next and most headache-inducing chapter in her life. After the sisters joined a mercenary company known as the Red Iron, the family paid their way into the city, staying with their uncle, Gamlen in Lowtown. Despite their efforts, and their mother's previous noble standing, they struggled to keep their heads above water.[break][break] One year passed, and they found an opportunity in the form of an expedition to the Deep Roads, set in place by a dwarf named Bartrand. Jaiden would come across many roadblocks on the path to becoming Bartrand's 'partner,' but would overcome them with the help of Bartrand's younger brother, Varric, who had quite the proposition. In the process, Jaiden would pick up new allies along the way, as well as obtaining her grandparents' will, which allowed her mother to retrieve the Hawke estate. Utilizing the maps gathered from Anders, a new companion of hers', as well as the funds she collected while running useful... and useless... errands, Jaiden proposed herself as Bartrand (and Varric's) partner. [break][break] Their trip to the Deep Roads was long, perilous, and filled with stinkin' brotherly treachery. Whether fueled by greed or some insane, red-lyrium crazed madness, Hawke and co. ended up trapped in an old, Dwarven thaig that contained the riches that the group were hoping for by Bartrand, who seemed to have more on his mind than 'splitting shares.' With some effort and a lot of teamwork, the group made it out of the thaig and the Deep Roads alive. [break][break] That series of events was what led Jaiden to the status of nobility in Kirkwall. She earned the estate back proper, and caught the eye of both the Vicount, as well as the qunari Arishock. She would aid in the investigation of missing women, cared for her continued investment in the 'Bone Pit,' and reinforced the bonds with her friends. While she would lose her mother to an insane blood mage, Jaiden would also overcome the qunari's attempt at converting Kirkwall to the Qun. The latter would end in a bloody battle between Hawke and the Arishock, but Hawke would emerge victorious and crowned as the Champion of Kirkwall.[break] [break] Her actions, both in and out of Kirkwall, would place her at the heart of the mage rebellion, especially when Anders went out of his way to blow up the Chantry. Trust betrayed, Hawke executed the apostate she knew as her friend, while going on to aid the templars in restoring order to the city. While she did not enjoy having to take sides, the rogue's choices would land her the position as Vicount, much to her dismay. The last thing she wanted to do after cleaning up everyone's messes... was to clean up everyone's mess. But she set about attempting to rebuild Kirkwall.[break][break] Oh, NOW You Hate Me! [break][break]As events began to settle in Kirkwall, Hawke came upon the discovery that the templars were using red lyrium, as Knight Commander Meredith once had. Hostilities rose, forcing Hawke to step down as Viscount, but that would not settle her desire to learn what was going on. She disappeared from the world's view, keeping in contact only with her closest friends, until she was called upon by Varric to emerge and aid a new faction, who had similar goals to Hawke's; the Inquisition.[break][break] On her dwarf-friend's endorsement, Jaiden lent her blades to the cause and her connections to aid in the investigation of Red Lyrium. Their search led them to believe that a darkspawn named Corypheus, who Hawke believed to have defeated years prior, was manipulating Grey Wardens, and using Red Lyrium to do the same to the templars. After conferring with Warden Stroud, Hawke accompanied the Inquisitor to Adamant Fortress to storm the keep and tear down allies of the former Tevinter magister-turned evil spawn of darkness. Their adventure would thrust them deep into the Fade, a trip that Hawke would never repeat again. [break][break] While the adventure turned into a harrowing experience, Hawke did not waste another moment. She immediately took leave to Weisshaupt, where she intended to tell the Grey Wardens in the area what had occurred. Naturally, as many of the incidents that Hawke finds herself in the middle of, the moment she stepped foot in Weisshaupt Fortress, she was thrown into another fight for power, this time between two separate sects of Wardens. She would never come to find who was on what side in the fortress, barely managing to make it out of the situation herself, before retreating back to Kirkwall; Wardens be damned.[break][break] The Life and Times of Jaiden Hawke [break][break]It would take years for Kirkwall to rebuild under the rule of Viscount Varric (a title neither dwarf nor human would come to understand), but Hawke remained close to her friend, aiding progress and defending the city whenever necessary. She senses the vacuum of power looming over all of their heads, and fears the impending, qunari threat from the North. What form their greatest fear will take, Hawke does not know, but she plans to be prepared. [/PTab={height: 250px; overflow: auto;}][PTab=Miscellaneous] Historical Headcanons [break]- If asked whether the events in Tale of a Champion were concocted from Varric's imagination or not, Jaiden Hawke would shrug and make a vague gesture with her hand. While she has read the cleverly woven story, she takes more joy in the idea of leaving people questioning motives. [break] - Jaiden's choice of weaponry came from her picking up a pair of meat cleavers from the butcher in Lothering when he wasn't looking. It created quite the stir in the village for a time, before Malcolm put a stop it and retrieved much safer, less bloody versions for her to practice with.[break][break] Friend and Foe Headcanons [break]- Since meeting Merrill and (technically) Fenris, Hawke has a soft spot for bleeding hearts and naive, too precious for this world types. Everyone who is precious and good deserves a little protection (and coddling).[break] - Hawke will go on to swear that every dragon she runs into can turn into a person (ie. like Flemeth). That hasn't stopped her from killing the dragons she runs into, but she will speculate what the human form of one looks like, and if they're all old, haggard women with spikey headdresses.[break] - Ever since her run in with the Arishok, Hawke has regarded many hostile-looking qunari with an air of suspicion. Guilty until proven innocent, she always says.[break][break] Estate and Living Headcanons [break]- She still retains the Hawke Estate in Kirkwall, mostly because her friends and remaining family would not have it any other way.[break] - Her first Mabari, Ser Snub Snuffles, passed away a year ago. Since then, she has adopted a pair of Mabari pups, who she has named Carver and Malcolm, likely because she has no intention of having her own children.[break] - There is a room within her estate that is lined with various daggers and blades, including a set of meat cleavers that rest above the mantle. [break] - If any of her friends ever needed a place to stay in the estate for any reason, Hawke has rooms set aside for each of them. She lives alone, much to the dismay of her 'surrogate' family, but it is a loneliness she fills with her own comforts.[break][break] [/PTab={height: 250px; overflow: auto;}][/PTabbedContent] |
